Description:

The scales of an infinite fractal spiral exhibit varying concentrations of blue, white, and brown. Structure is built up as the rendering process periodically layers color onto each spiral arm. Color mixing occurs because the number of arms (37) is not divisible by the number of input colors (3). Scale coloration of every third arm in the spiral slowly changes before returning to its starting state after three revolutions. Distinct scales that arise are reminiscent of rock spall, a common form of weathering that causes flakes of rock to break free from the surface of a larger body.

Print Detail

  • The following is a macro photo of a 16 x 24 inch artist proof on matte paper.
  • Please note that these pictures are taken extremely close to the artwork to give a better feel for what it is like to in the presence of this piece.
  • Most of our pieces are scale invariant, so small zoomed in regions can be hard to distinguish from the whole. We think this property gives the artwork a particular quality of bottomlessness.
